Mumbai Indians to offer Jofra Archer a lucrative year-long contract: Report

As the Mumbai Indians try to implement the year-round policy, star player Jofra Archer is expected to sign a massive deal worth Rs 10 crore. According to the latest reports on Thursday, the report suggests MI is to fork out a considerable sum that will see England Cricket Board (ECB) seek permission from the franchise to take him international duties. The winner of the 2019 World Cup recently left the MI camp due to an elbow problem and will continue his recovery in England.

“Archer has been recovering from right elbow surgery,” an ECB statement said

According to a story published by The Daily Mail on Thursday, Archer will be given a year-round contract, although the ECB will have to get MI’s approval before using him for international work. The player, who led the five-time champions through an injury-plagued season, will make Rs 10 crore if the claim is accurate. The agreement may require the English Cricket Board (ECB) to offer multi-year contracts to English players in order to pique their interest in lieu of lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts. Another player whose contract with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is up for renewal every year is Alex Hales. Hales withdrew from the franchise this season despite being a permanent fixture of the team.

For Archer, the ODI World Cup still stands as the player’s top priority, but he is concentrating on giving it his all to make the Ashes squad. “Archer has been recovering from right elbow surgery,” an ECB statement said. “However, pushing through the discomfort whilst recently playing, hoping it will settle, has proven challenging. Therefore, it has been agreed for him to return to the UK for a period of rest and rehabilitation to give him the best opportunity for a full recovery,” the statement further added. Chris Jordan has been appointed as a replacement for the injured England player and has already joined the team set-up with the business end of the season in full swing.
