Mirabai Chanu, India’s silver medal winner at the Tokyo Olympics can get a gold uprgade. According to reports, Hou Zhihui, the gold medalist from China will undergo testing by the anti-doping authorities. Moreover, if Zhihui fails the test, Chanu will be the first Indian woman to win a Gold in weightlifting at the Olympics.

Mirabai bagged the Olympics silver for India by lifting a total of 202kg. Zhihui lifted 210kg for the win. Additionally, according to the rules, if a medalist fails their doping test, the athlete who finished below them will replace them. “She has been asked to stay in Tokyo and the test will be done. The test is definitely happening,” reported the ANI.
On July 23, she ended India’s 21-year long wait for a medal in weightlifting with 202 kg (87 kg+115 kg). After all, she opened India’s account by bettering Karnam Malleshwar’s bronze-winning performance at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Abhinav Bindra, India’s Olympic gold medalist also tweeted his congratulations with a personalized letter. “Many many Congratulations to Mirabai Chanu on winning India’s first medal at Tokyo 2020.
