The 23-year-old produced a stunning performance in front of the home crowds and looked dominant right from the start. He started the race in pole and took the win by a margin of more than 20 seconds ahead of rival Hamilton. The Red Bull driver wins the championship at the first Dutch Grand Prix since 1985. This was Hamilton’s 10th podium finish in 2021 and 175th of his career.

“Of course, the expectations were very high going into the weekend and it’s never easy to fulfill that,” 23-year-old Verstappen said after the win. I’m so happy to win here and to take the lead in the championship. It’s just an amazing day with the whole crowd here. It’s incredible.” Max Verstappen said after the victory

Lewis Hamilton said: “What a race, what a crowd! It’s been an amazing weekend. Max did a good job so congratulations to him. I gave it everything, flat out, Pushed as hard as I could but they were just too quick for us. The final lap was the best part of the race for me – this track is incredible, so a single lap, low fuel … this is now one of my favorite tracks. I can’t wait to come back next year.”
