Manchester City wins the Premier League final in a nail-biting finish

Manchester City fans are beaming with joy as the club clenches the win in a nail-biting finish to be named the champions of the Premier League. This is City’s fourth title in the last 5 years. Pep Guardiola’s team made a stunning comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Aston Villa.

Ilkay Gundogan brought about a remarkable City comeback, as the German midfielder trimmed the deficit before Rodri equalized. In the 81st minute, Gundogan scored City’s third goal in five minutes. This sparked a tremendous celebration and made second-placed Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Wolves inconsequential. With a mere difference of one point, City remained at the top of the tabletop with 93 points. Meanwhile, Liverpool finished their season with 92 points in second place.

4th trophy for Manchester City in 5 seasons

Guardiola’s team joined Manchester United as the only club in the Premier League era to win four trophies in five seasons. Alex Ferguson’s sides achieved it three times. Pep Guardiola has won nine major trophies since joining City in 2016. Pep Guardiola’s team lost their first match of the tournament against Tottenham Hotspur. However, they rallied to dominate Liverpool by 14 points in February. Klopp’s team came back to pick up the competition into the last week of the season, despite having played two fewer games.

City manager Pep Guardiola said that “the most difficult serve in tennis is the one you have to serve to be champion.” Speaking with Sky sports, he continued,” We are legends. When you win the Premier League in this country four times in five seasons it is because these guys are so, so special. We will be remembered.”

Manchester City now secured back-to-back titles for the second time under Guardiola. They’ve only lost three games this season. They have 11 points from 19 games outside of the Etihad Stadium, with 14 wins. The City has surpassed 90 points for the third time under Guardiola. Earlier they reached 100 in 2018 and 98 in 2019. City’s title victory prevented Liverpool from a historic quadruple. If Liverpool defeats Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris on Saturday, they can still have a remarkable end of their season.
