According to Spanish reports, Manchester United called Zinedine Zidane during the international break to check his availability upon the recommendation of Cristiano Ronaldo. After losing 4-2 in Leicester on Saturday, the Red Devils are at risk of being left behind in the Premier League title race, putting pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Before the defeat against Leicester City, United failed to win two successive Premier League games. Despite the announcements of Ronaldo, Raphaël Varane, and Jadon Sancho, the team seems to still struggle to win games. Hence, supporters of the club have been pushing the #Oleout social media campaign to influence the club’s board to get rid of him.

Solskjaer hasn’t won a major title for the club since he became the club’s coach in 2018. The best performance under his coaching stint so far came in the 2020-21 Europe League, where he lead the club to the final but eventually lost to Villarreal via penalty shootout.

Could we see a Ronaldo-Zidane reunion at Manchester United?

Zidane is one of the most successful coaches in terms of the UEFA Champions League competition. And he is seen as the coach that can effectively manage United’s squad. The star midfielder has a sensational coaching career at Real Madrid with 11 titles, wins in 166 of 251 games. He has won three Champions League trophies, two Club World Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, two Spanish Super Cups, and two LaLiga titles in Madrid so far. He is the only manager to lift back-to-back-to-back Champions League trophies. Easily, one of the most decorated Real Madrid managers in history.

According to Spanish journalist Eduardo Inda, United has already reached out to Zidane to discuss potentially replacing Solskjaer. He told El Chiringuito TV last night: “Zidane can have the teams he wants. It is an option that has occurred in the national team stoppage.”

“I already said that PSG had approached him, they have always wanted him. Newcastle also wanted him, but in the national team break, he had a call from Manchester United to replace Solskjaer. The person who would sponsor him and who has recommended him to the board is Cristiano Ronaldo.” said the Spanish Journalist.
