IPL 2024 Schedule Announcement: After days of anticipation, the Indian Premier League (IPL) schedule was finally revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday (Feb 22) with the first match to be played between CSK and RCB. Keeping in mind the dates of India’s forthcoming general elections, the BCCI delayed the schedule announcement.
The IPL 2024 will begin on Friday (March 22), with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chennai’s M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. While no dates or locations have been announced, the playoffs are expected to take place in the final week of May, before the focus shifts to the T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies.
IPL schedule revealed
On the eve of the second Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, the BCCI released the IPL schedule for the first few matches. The schedule has been issued for the first 17 days, consisting of 21 matches until April 7, when the general elections will take center stage.
The Delhi Capitals, seeking their first IPL crown, will play their first two games of the season in Vizag before returning to the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for their home matches. Five-time champions Mumbai Indians will begin their adventure on Sunday (March 24), with Hardik Pandya facing former team GT in the opener.
The dates for the second phase of the IPL schedule will be announced when the Election Commission of India releases the general election dates.
CSK are the IPL’s defending champions, having defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in May 2023. The final was played over two days (technically three) after rain played spoilsport during the match. The win also saw CSK equal Mumbai Indians’ tally of most IPL titles won and pocket the glory for the fifth time.
