The IPL bidding process for new teams ended on Monday as the cash-rich league will have two new teams in Ahmedabad and Lucknow from next season onwards. RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group bagged the Lucknow IPL team for Rs 7,090 crore, while Irelia Company Pvt Ltd got the Ahmedabad IPL franchise for Rs 5,625 crore.
“The new franchises will participate in IPL from 2022 season onwards subject to the bidders completing the post-bid formalities as specified in the ITT document. The IPL 2022 season will comprise ten teams and will have 74 matches. Wherein each team will play 7 home and 7 away matches.” BCCI said in a statement
According to Cricbuzz, all the parties were asked to submit two envelopes. One for personal and financial credentials and the second for the bid. BCCI had its legal and audit officials first check the credentials. And only after they were found to be in order, the second envelopes were opened.
It is also learned that Manchester United’s owners were also one of the ten teams to turn up for the Indian Premier League team auction at Dubai. The Adani Group and the Rhiti Sports, promoted by MS Dhoni manager Arun Pandey, were among others who had submitted bids for the IPL teams.
Possible number of matches in IPL 2022 and mega auction details
The number of league matches for each team will be 14 – seven home and seven away games for each franchise. Because, due to the jam-pack international schedule, the BCCI hasn’t considered increasing the number of matches. So, The number of league matches in total will be 74. The BCCI is yet to confirm the rules regarding the retention of players. The mega auction is likely to take place in January 2022.
