The 15th edition of the IPL came to an end on Sunday night with Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans winning their first-ever IPL title. The two-month-long tournament saw several great performances from the players across the different departments. Here are some of the key statistics of IPL 2022.

1. The run-getters
- Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler stood out amongst other batsmen as he went on to score 863 runs this season. The orange cap holder was in magical touch throughout the tournament. He hit 4 centuries this year along with 4 half-centuries and also became the second-highest run-scorer in a single season of the IPL, just behind Virat Kohli.
- The LSG skipper KL Rahul may have impressed people with his captaincy but his batting this year was impactful too. The skilled batter pounded out 616 runs at a rate of 51.33. He hammered two tons and four fifties in the process.
- His opening partner, Quinton de Kock has followed suit, scoring 508 runs with a strike rate of 36.28.
2. Turning the game around with the ball
- KKR’s enigmatic spinner Sunil Narine had the best economy (5.57) this season for any bowler who has bowled a minimum of 10 overs.
- Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Mohammed Siraj had an awful year with the ball, he gave away the most sixes (31).
- Rajasthan’s Prasidh Krishna may have bowled the most number of dot balls i.e. but he was also the one giving 545 runs, which is the most by any bowler this season.
3. Chahal the wicket-taker
- Yuzvendra Chahal completed the league with the highest number of wickets. He chopped 27 scalps while maintaining an economy rate of 7.75.
- Wanindu Hasaranga of the Royal Challengers Bangalore came second on the list. At an average of 16.53, he made 26 dismissals with an economy of 7.54.
4. Personal milestones in IPL 2022
- This season, Jasprit Bumrah took 15 wickets. He was quite tight with his economy (7.18). After Lasith Malinga, he is the first bowler to take 15 wickets in seven straight IPL seasons.
- 234 runs by Buttler are the most by any player in the knockouts in a single edition of the IPL.
- Rajat Patidar became the first uncapped player to hit a century in the IPL play-offs.
- KL Rahul is the only player to score 600+ runs in 3 consecutive seasons.
- Virat Kohli is the only player to score 300+ runs in 13 consecutive editions of IPL
5. IPL 2022: Other key statistics
- Tilak Varma of the Mumbai Indians impressed in his first season. He finished the tournament as MI’s second-highest run-scorer with 397 runs. According to Cricbuzz, he scored the fourth-most runs by an uncapped player in the IPL’s first edition.
- Rahul and de Kock’s unbeaten 210-run opening partnership against KKR is the third-highest partnership for any wicket in IPL.
- Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Choudhary took the most (11) wickets in the powerplay.
- Dinesh Karthik had an excellent strike rate of 242 in death overs.
- The spin trio, Chahal, Kuldeep and Hasaranga took 20 wickets each in the middle overs. for their respective teams.
