With a handsome 86 run victory over RR on Thursday, KKR has almost made it to the Playoffs. However, if you believe in miracles, there is a slight chance for Mumbai Indians to make it to the Top 4. Nobody gave KKR a chance to make it to the playoffs before the start of the second phase. But they fought back really well and have almost booked their place in the Top 4. However, they’ve to wait for the Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad clash, for the official announcement. Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore are already qualified for the Playoffs.
How Mumbai Indians can qualify for IPL 2021 Playoff
Mumbai Indians are placed at the 5th spot with 12 points and an NRR of -0.048. On the other hand, KKR are sitting at the 4th spot with 14 points, but their NRR is +0.587 after their victory on Thursday. The equation for Mumbai Indians is quite simple – they need to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 171 runs in Abu Dhabi on Friday to qualify for the IPL 2021 Playoff. If they bowl first, they can’t overtake KKR on the points table even if they win inside the first over.
So, Mumbai Indians will be hoping to win the toss and bat first in order to put up a huge total on board for bowlers to defend. The biggest margin of win in the IPL history is 146 runs, which was achieved by MI against DC in IPL 2017. So, if you’re a MI fan then pray for something miraculous to happen at Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Meanwhile, RCB also only has a mathematical chance of making it to the Top 2 if they beat the Delhi Capitals on Friday. To finish among the top two teams, they will now have to beat DC by more than 113 runs. CSK is currently at the 2nd spot with 18 points and a Net Run Rate of +0.455 while RCB has -0.159.
