Yuzvendra Chahal

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is on the verge of breaking one more record ahead of the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka. The leg spinner looked in good rhythm in the first ODI. He picked the wickets of two set batsmen, giving away 52 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

Chahal has 94 wickets in 55 ODIs so far. If he takes a six-for in the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday then he will be the fastest Indian bowler to reach 100 international wickets. Mohammad Shami has achieved the same feat in 56 matches. So, Chahal has a good chance of equalling Shami’s record in the 2nd ODI. The next on the list is Jasprit Bumrah who took 100 ODI wickets in 57 games.

Chahal can reach another milestone in the second ODI. If he manages to pick a fifer, then he will equal Harbhajan Singh for most five-wicket hauls by an Indian spinner in ODIs with three. So far, Chahal has bagged two five-wicket hauls in his ODI career.

KULCHA back in form

Chahal’s bowling partner and his close friend Kuldeep Yadav joined the ‘Club 100’ in 58 ODIs. The duo played together for the first time since the 2019 World Cup in the first ODI against Srilanka. Kulcha once again showed their worth and continue to pick the wickets in the middle overs.

The left-arm spinner picked 2 wickets in his quota of 9 overs giving away 48 runs. He bowled beautifully and looked in good rhythm in the first ODI. He needs one more wicket to equal his teammate Jasprit Bumrah’s 108 ODI wickets tally. Kuldeep also has a chance of equalling Yuvraj Singh’s 110 ODI wickets if he managed to pick three wickets in the second ODI against Sri Lanka.

“Very happy that after a long time Chahal and I got to play together for the team. We are comfortable with each other and we back each other. We both share inputs on the field whenever it is required, the bonding is nice between us both. We performed well together, we played after a long time and it orders well for the side,” Kuldeep was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

“I was trying to vary my pace as the wicket was dry in the first innings. The wicket offered some assistance for the spinners, I was varying my pace depending on the batsmen. Very happy with the way team performed in this match,” Kuldeep added.
