It was a mixed day for India at Tokyo Olympics on day 2. Manika Batra moved forward to the 3rd round of women’s single Table Tennis.Manu Bhaker was unfortunate to miss the spot in the next round due to a technical snag. Marry Kom and PV Sindhu moved to the next round after convincing victories. The Indian men’s hockey team faced a defeat against Australia.
Shooting
Women’s
The World no.2, Manu Bhaker missed the 10m Air Pistol Women’s Final just by few points. She finished the qualification with 575 points and at the 12th spot in the 53-woman field. While The World no. 1 Yashaswini Deswal finished with 574 points and at the 13th spot.
It was a very hearting moment for Manu, as she faced a technical glitch and did not shoot for as many as 5 minutes in her 3rd series.

Men’s
Deepak Kumar and Divyansh Singh Panwar finished 26th and 32nd, respectively, in the men’s 10m air rifle event of the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday.
Rowing
The Indian Rower duo of Arjun Lal and Arvind Singh qualified for the repechage semi-final A/B in lightweight Men’s Double Sculls at Sea Forest Waterway on Sunday.
The duo pulled off the victory in the last few minutes. Till 1500 meters, they were on the last in the heat but superb charge in the final heat helped them overcome the Uruguayan challenge to finish 5th.
Badminton
PV Sindhu defeated 58th rank Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10 in a one-sided opening match. She won the straight two sets and started her Tokyo 2020 on a winning note.
PV Sindhu will next play Hong Kong’s world number 34 Cheung Ngan Yi in the group stage.
Tennis
Women’s duo of Sania Mirza & Ankita Raina lost 6-0, 6-7, (8-10) to Ukraine pair of L Kichenok and N Kichenok in the 1st Round of Women’s Doubles. A big upset for India, as the duo won the first set comfortably and looked in very good touch. But Ukraine’s pair put pressure in the last 2 sets and pulled off a thrilling victory.
Artistic Gymnastics
India’s lone gymnast, Pranati Nayak failed to qualify for All-Round finals at Tokyo Olympics. She recorded a total score of 42.565 over the four categories – floor exercise, vault, uneven bars, and balance beam.
Table Tennis
Another shocking result for India on Day 2 at the Tokyo Olympics. Sathiyan Gnanasekaran loses the last three sets after taking a 3-1 lead against Hong Kong’s Lam Siu Hang. Sathiyan was leading 3-1 at one stage but Siu Hang fought back in the last three sets.
Manika Batra defeated world number 32 Margaryta Pesotska to reach the women’s singles third round at the Tokyo Olympics. Manika was down in the first two sets but then made a remarkable comeback and clinched the second by 4-3 (4-11, 4-11, 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7)
Boxing
Six-time World Champion, Mary Kom defeated Miguelina Garcia by 4-1 and moves into the round of 16. Mary Kom looked in complete control throughout the match, used her all experience, and started her Tokyo 2020 campaign with a bang.
In another match, Manish Kaushik faced an early exit with a loss in the round of 32. Great Britain’s Luke McCormack defeated Kaushik 4-1 in the opening match.
Swimming
Maana Patel finished second in the women’s 100m backstroke Heat 1. But her timing wasn’t good enough as she failed to qualify for the semifinals.
Srihari Nataraj failed to qualify for the semifinals. He clocked 54.31 in Heats, but it wasn’t good enough to make a place in the semis.
Hockey
Indian men’s hockey team faced a severe loss 1-7 against Australia in their Men’s Hockey Pool A match on Sunday. Tim Brand, Joshua Beltz, Daniel James Beale, Flynn Andrew Ogilvie, Jeremy Thomas Hayward scoring a goal each for Australia. Blake Govers scored a brace for the world champions. Dilpreet Singh was the goal scorer for India.
