Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has made it to the top-five of the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for the first time in his career after a terrific bowling performance against Bangladesh.
Afridi has moved up three places to fifth position after overtaking England’s James Anderson, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, and New Zealand’s Neil Wagner. Pakistan’s Hasan Ali also attained a career-best position after finishing with a seven-wicket match haul against Bangladesh. Hasan has moved up five places to 11th place.
Opener Abid Ali, who scored a hundred and a fifty (133 and 91) in the first test helped him shoot up 27 slots to a career-best 20th position. While Abdullah Shafique entered the rankings at 83rd with scores of 52 and 73. Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim is up four places to 19th while Liton Das has moved up 26 places to a career-best 31st position. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has progressed two places to 23rd position.
Ravindra Jadeja second in ICC Test rankings for allrounders
Ravindra Jadeja, who took five wickets in the first test against New Zealand at Kanpur moves up two places to 19th among bowlers. He also moves up one place to second among all-rounders. Jadeja’s bowling partner Ravichandran Ashwin is ranked third among all-rounders and 79th among batters.
Debutant Shreyas Iyer, who became the first Indian batsman to score a century and fifty on debut helped him enter the rankings in 74th position. While opener Shubman Gill moves up six places to 66th and keeper Wriddhiman Saha up nine places to 99th.
For New Zealand, Tom Latham has made it to the Top 10 after two brilliant half-centuries in the first test. He goes up from 14th to the ninth position. Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is ninth among bowlers, while Tim Southee has gained 15 rating points.
