ICC announces ODI WC schedule: England to face NZ in opener; India-Pakistan in Ahmedabad

The International Cricket Council (ICC), which will host the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India in October-November, finally released the much-anticipated complete schedule on Tuesday (June 27). The full schedule, which had been the subject of considerable conjecture, has been released. The defending champions, England, will play New Zealand in the tournament’s opening match in Ahmedabad in October, while India will play Australia on October 8 in the same city. On October 15, the hosts and Pakistan will square off in Ahmedabad.

The ten-team competition will take place in Ahmedabad, Dharamshala, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Lucknow, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Pune. It should be remembered that Pakistan would play in Kolkata if they advanced to the semifinals. Ahmedabad will host India’s match against Pakistan, Chennai will host Australia, Delhi will host Afghanistan, Lucknow will host England, Dharamshala will host New Zealand, Kolkata will host South Africa, Pune will host Bangladesh, Bengaluru will host Quarter 1 and Mumbai will host Quarter 2.

ICC World Cup 2023 Knockouts

The upcoming 50-over World Cup will be played according to the 2019 format. In the round-robin stage, each team will face the other nine teams once, and the top four teams advance to the semi-finals (with the top-ranked team facing the fourth-place team and the second-ranked team facing the third-place side). On November 19, the championship game will be played at Ahmedabad’s renowned Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium.

India, the hosts, will be motivated to win the 50-over World Cup at home in order to end their ten-year ICC title drought. India most recently served as the event’s co-host in 2011, along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. After 28 years, the Men in Blue team led by MS Dhoni won the title back then. Will Rohit Sharma and the company be able to repeat the feat this time? Time will only tell.
