Right before the start of this season of IPL, the CSK franchise made a huge announcement stating that MS Dhoni will no longer be the captain. Chennai’s captaincy was handed over to Ravindra Jadeja. However, things didn’t go as expected, CSK lost the initial matches. As a result, Jadeja gave up on the position and MS Dhoni returned as the skipper. However, the question arises, what made Jadeja give up the captaincy?
MS Dhoni said at the post-match presentation, “I think Jadeja knew last season he’d be captaining this year. For the first two games, I oversaw his work and let him be later. After that, I insisted he’d take his own decisions and responsibility for them. Once you become captain, it means a lot of demands come in. But it affected his mind as the tasks grew. I think captaincy burdened his prep and performances.”
MS Dhoni returned with immediate results: CSK beat Sunrisers Hyderabad
MS Dhoni returned with immediate results, as CSK beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs to keep their tournament hopes alive. Devon Conway paired up with Ruturaj Gaikwad to open the innings. The duo scored 182 runs together to help the team reach a total of 203 runs. Kane Williamson’s Hyderabad couldn’t chase down the target and was restricted at 189/6 by end of the game.
Discussing the win, MS Dhoni said, “It was a good score to start off. I did nothing different, it’s not like much changes with the change of captain. The target we got was a good one. Dew comes in, so the bowling needed to be good. The spinners did well in the 7-14 over period, that was key to the win and gave a surplus of runs which we could fall back on.”
