Here is how the WTC 2021-23 points table looks like after the 2nd Ashes Test

The ongoing edition of the World Test Championship will last for over 2 years. Teams in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 will be ranked according to their percentage of points. A team receives 12 (100%) points for a win, 6 (50%) points for a tie, and 4 (33.33%) points for a draw. In addition, for slow over-rates, teams will lose one championship point for each over that falls short. The Australia team won the second Ashes 2021-22 Test against Joe Root’s England by 275 runs on Monday, December 20 at the Adelaide Oval. The win secures 2nd spot for Australia in the table. 

Australia Test skipper Pat Cummins, unfortunately, was ruled out of the day-night Test after coming in touch with a COVID-19 positive person ahead of the match. Therefore, his deputy and ex Australian captain Steve Smith took over the duties. Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, opener Marcus Harris was out cheaply in single digit. However, David Warner and Steve Smith both missed an opportunity to make a century. Though both his teammates got out in the 90s, Labuschagne did reach the three-figure mark. Alex Carey and the tailenders played solid knocks, and Australia decided to declare at 473/9. 

Team Australia has retained their No. 2 ranking

In reply to the 400 run mark, England scored only 236 runs in their first innings. Only Joe Root and Dawid Malan scored well. Despite having a large lead, Australia did not enforce the follow-on, and in the second innings, they scored 230 runs. Prompting the home team to declare their second innings 467 runs ahead. England was given a massive target to chase. The team as well as fans had huge expectations from openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed. The duo was expected to get the team off to a good start. However, they failed once again. Hameed who got an opportunity after a long gap in a series against India has been struggling to capitalize on the opportunity. In addition, two of England’s top batters, Joe Root and Dawid Malan, were also dismissed after scoring 24 and 20 runs, respectively. 

Meanwhile, on the final day, Australian pacers performed admirably. Jhye Richardson, bagged a 5-wicket haul helping Australia claim their second consecutive Ashes series victory. Team Australia has retained their No. 2 ranking after a resounding victory over England. England, on the other hand, is ranked second from the bottom with only 08.33 percentage points.
