Hardik Pandya is unlikely to be retained by Mumbai Indians

Hardik Pandya is unlikely to be retained by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2022. The new edition of IPL will see mega auctions before the commencement of the season. Though, there is no official announcement about retention and RTM rules.

It is assumed that Mumbai Indians will likely retain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and one of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kisan as 3 of their local players. The star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will probably get back into the Indian Premier League auction pool, media reports suggest. The five-time trophy-winning franchise will have a tough time making decisions about retention.

The mega auction is likely to take place in December and rules for the same will be out soon. According to a recent rumor, teams would be authorized to keep a maximum of four players. The addition of two new teams has already spiced up the tournament. The two new teams can select 3 players before the mega auction.

I think the BCCI will have a three-player retention formula with one Right to Match card – IPL official

“I think the BCCI will have a three-player retention formula with one Right to Match card. If RTM is not there, there could be four retentions. Rohit Sharma and India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah are automatic picks. Kieron Pollard will be the third retention. MI’s strength is their continuity as these three are pillars of MI,” informs an IPL official.

“At this point in time, there is less than a 10 percent chance that Hardik will be retained by MI. Yes, he might just outperform everybody in the next few T20 World Cup games but even then, chances are dim. If there are four retentions or 1 RTM, then Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are the contenders for that slot,” the IPL official adds.

Ever since the injury, Hardik’s performance has seen a dip. He is no longer an all-rounder as of now because he can’t bowl. Well, we hope Hardik gets fit soon to start bowling again. He will indeed be an asset to whichever team he plays for.
