She made her international debut at the ISSF Junior World Cup in 2016 at Suhl. In 2018, she scripted history as she become the first Indian female skeet shooter to win a medal at the Junior ISSF World Championship in Sydney. She won the Asian Championships silver medal in 2019. In 2021, Sekhon won bronze in the ISSF Shooting World Cup Women’s Skeet event at New Delhi.

The bronze medal in the ISSF World Cup was a boost to my senior shooting career: Ganemat Sekhon

“It was my last international tournament as a junior and I am glad to end my junior career with a medal in the world cup. The conditions were very challenging in the final as it became very windy here. But I am happy that I was able to perform well in such conditions. Getting used to the time difference was another challenge. But my training under coach Piero Genga helped me a lot”, said Ganemat Sekhon (To Indian Express).

Earlier, Manu Bhaker bagged gold in the women’s 10m air pistol while her teammate Esha Singh claimed silver. Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil won silver in the men’s 10m air rifle and Ramita claimed a bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle. In the men’s skeet, none of the three Indians in the fray, Rajveer Gill, Abhay Singh Sekhon, and Ayush Rudraraju could make it to the six-man finals.

“The bronze medal in the ISSF World Cup was a boost to my senior shooting career and gave me a lot of confidence to believe in myself while competing at the senior level. The time after the world cup was tough as I was not able to travel to Italy for my training. It meant that I could only take guidance from my coach Piero Genga over the phone. I had been training for the Kazakhstan World Cup before it was canceled”, said Sekhon.
