The CSK franchise put out a shocking statement just 2 days before the start of IPL 2022. MS Dhoni has passed the captaincy baton to Ravindra Jadeja. The defending champions were set to play their first game against KKR on Saturday. Jadeja has been playing under the leadership of Dhoni for years and with Raina, not a part of this season, Jadeja becomes an obvious choice for the captaincy candidate.
“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” reads the official statement.
Could be the last season for MS Dhoni
MS, who has led CSK since the league’s start in 2008, maybe playing in his final IPL season this year. He is no longer a member of the international cricket team. CSK has won the IPL four times in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021, second only to Mumbai Indians. The team also has the greatest victory % of all IPL teams. Only time will tell how this decision turns out for CSK.
