Damar Hamlin finally goes home
The Buffalo Bills safety was discharged from the hospital, nine days following his cardiac arrest during the match on January 2. The 24-year-old collapsed during a match after tackling Tee Higgins, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver. He was rushed to the intensive care unit after receiving over 30 minutes of medical attention on the pitch. Players from both teams gathered around Hamlin as emergency staff gave oxygen and CPR. Players were distressed and seen kneeling in tears and prayer. The game was later called off.
As per Hamlin’s doctors, they were “confident Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills”. He also underwent several tests and a “comprehensive evaluation”. The incident brought widespread support from NFL supporters and players. He spent two days with ventilation support but, the doctors revealed he was talking in the hospital by Friday. He was discharged from the Cincinnati hospital on Monday and later moved to the one in Buffalo.
More on the ordeal
Damar Hamlin is now back home with his family. Before his release, he also underwent several vascular and neurological testing on Tuesday. “We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills,” stated Dr. Jamie Nadler. Dr. Nadler is the chief quality officer and critical care physician of Kaleida Health, the firm running Buffalo General.
“His health is first and foremost on our mind as far as this situation. And then when he feels ready. We will welcome him back,” stated Sean McDermott, the Bills coach. McDermott added that the team will be leaving it up to Hamlin if he wants to return to the facility.
