If the reports are to be believed then, we could see MS Dhoni in yellow jersey again in IPL 2022. According to Indian Express, defending Champions Chennai Super Kings have decided to retain captain MS Dhoni for the next three seasons, ahead of the mega auction.
Apart from Dhoni, the franchise has also reportedly decided to retain their star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. CSK is also in talks with England all-rounder Moeen Ali to come on board. Given IPL 2022 to be played in India, Moeen Ali can be a valuable asset for CSK on the slow and turning track at Chepauk.
Earlier, Dhoni had himself confirmed that his last T20 game will be in Chennai. “I have always planned my cricket. My last ODI in India was in Ranchi. Hopefully, my last T20 will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year or in five years’ time, I don’t know,” Dhoni had said at a recent CSK event.
KL Rahul to part ways with Punjab Kings
As per the reports by The Indian Express, India opener KL Rahul will be parting ways with PBKS and will be seen leading the new Lucknow franchise. IPL 2022 will be a ten-team affair and two new teams owners Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG group and CVC Capitals have approached a few top Indian players. And, as per the reports, KL Rahul has agreed with the deal with Lucknow. The Lucknow-based franchise has also approached Surya Kumar Yadav and David Warner but the two batters haven’t responded yet.
The above-mentioned report also stated that Mumbai Indians will likely retain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ishan Kishan. They are also in talks with their premium all-rounder Kieron Pollard. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders are likely to retain Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarty too. And for the fourth choice, they’re likely to retain opener Shubman Gill.
Delhi Capitals are set to retain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and star pacer Anrich Mortje. It is also understood that Delhi Capitals will let go star batter Shreyas Iyer, who wants to lead the team. But the franchise wants Rishabh Pant to continue as the skipper. Talking of another franchise, RCB is likely to retain Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammad Siraj, and legspinner Yuzi Chahal.
IPL 2022 is likely to begin on 2nd April in Chennai
As per the BCCI’s retention policy for IPL 2022, all teams are allowed to retain a maximum of four players. The list is to be submitted by November 30 before the mega auction slated for next month. The two new teams are allowed to finalize their 3 players outside of auction between 1st December 2021 to 30th December 2021. There will also be no Right to Match (RTM) card this time around.
