Manchester United on Thursday confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the famous No. 7 jersey once again following his return to Old Trafford.
In an official statement, the club said: “Manchester United can confirm that Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the iconic no.7 shirt after returning to Old Trafford. The Portuguese superstar famously wore the legendary shirt number during his first spell with the club. And we can confirm that Cristiano will have it on his back once again.”
The No.7 jersey has been worn by several Manchester United legends in the past. The likes of David Beckham, Eric Cantona, and George Best, including Ronaldo, and once again it’ll be donned by the star forward.
In his first spell for Manchester United, The Portugal star spent six seasons at Old Trafford from 2003-2009. Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games. He won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2007/08, the season he helped the Red Devils claim their last UEFA Champions League title. Ronaldo has claimed eight trophies including three Premier League titles plus the Ballon d’Or with Red Devils.
Edinson Cavani, who wore number seven last season at Manchester United, will switch to 21. He also wears the same number jersey on international duty for Uruguay.
“I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again. So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi for this incredible gesture,” Ronaldo said after being handed the iconic No.7 jersey.
