After being selected for Portugal’s starting lineup against Liechtenstein in the Euro 2024 qualifying match, Cristiano Ronaldo now holds the record for most appearances for a male player.

By starting in a Euro 2024 qualifying match against Liechtenstein, which also serves as Portugal manager Roberto Martinez’s first game in charge, the 38-year-old has gone ahead of Kuwait’s Bader Al-Mutawa.

Currently playing for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo has scored 120 goals for his country, including a brace against Liechtenstein. Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva both scored goals as Portugal went on to win 4-0.

The former Real Madrid stalwart is presently ranked first among all male international football goal scorers. With 109 goals, Iranian great Ali Daei is closely followed by Lionel Messi of Argentina.

After scoring against Ghana in Portugal’s opening game of the 2022 World Cup, Ronaldo made history by becoming the first player to score in five World Cups.

Portugal was placed in Group J of the Euro qualifiers together with Bosnia & Herzegovina, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Slovakia. The next trip for Roberto Martinez’s men will be on March 27 to Luxembourg.
