With the enthusiasm surrounding the Indian Premier League fading and cricket fans yearning for more exciting action, Major League Cricket (MLC) is prepared to fill the void.
The MLC makes its foray into the franchise T20 cricket world, as the United States of America prepares for its maiden cricket season.
What is Major League Cricket?
Major League Cricket, which begins on July 13, is a new tournament for the United States’ embryonic cricket growth. Six teams will compete in an 18-game tournament, culminating in the final championship game on July 30. MLC, a new domestic cricket league for the United States, will help the sport gain a footing in the country.
The competition is supported by several leading clubs from India’s domestic league, the IPL, and offers large money. The organizers have sought to attract some of the game’s top talent, with players such as Faf du Plessis (South Africa), Marcus Stoinis, Aaron Finch (both Australia), Trent Boult (New Zealand), Quinton de Kock (South Africa), and Jason Roy (England) bringing their experience to the tournament.
What is the format of Major League Cricket?
Six teams will participate in a T20 format, with each match featuring 20 overs of six balls with the goal of scoring the most runs.
After competing in a round-robin style, the top four teams will advance to the playoffs, which will feature the Eliminator, Qualifier, Challenger, and Finals.
Every club can have a maximum of 19 players and a minimum of 16 players on its roster. Each squad must include one domestic under-23 rookie player to help promote cricket in the United States and develop future generations of American players.
Each squad may have up to nine international players on their roster. However, in addition to the five domestic players, no more than six overseas players will be permitted in the starting XI.
MLC 2023- List of venues
The games will be held in Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas and Church Street Park in North Carolina, with the final taking place in Texas.
