Chetan Sharma, the top selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been caught in a major scandal following an alleged sting operation by a TV channel. The head selector revealed some shocking revelations about the Men in Blue, as well as the ‘backroom feud’ that frequently occurs amongst players.
During the undercover operation, the former cricketer was overheard disparaging some players while also casting aspersions on others.
It should be remembered that Chetan Sharma was just reinstated as Chairman of the Selection Committee, months after he was fired following India’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Sharma addressed the much-discussed dispute and strained ties between Team India’s ace players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He went on to reveal how Kohli and Sourav Ganguly had a fractious relationship and how their ego conflict harmed the team’s prospects.
The chief selector also revealed his internal deliberations with head coach Rahul Dravid in the Zee News sting operation.
Chetan Sharma made another controversial remark, claiming that many players, although fit, take injections to be competitive in games. He discussed his disagreements with Team Management on Bumrah’s return to the T20 series against Australia last year.
The head selector’s on-camera tirade has landed the BCCI in a humiliating scenario. The cricket organization has yet to issue a comment regarding Chetan’s sting operation, but it is evident that harsh action would be taken.
Chetan’s revelation of inside information and deliberations is likely to result in action by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. The BCCI is supposed to be huddled and deliberating on the next steps.
