Carlos Alcaraz becomes the second youngest player to reach the top 5 in ATP rankings

Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player after Rafael Nadal to be in the top 5 ATP rankings. Nadal had achieved the milestone when he was merely 18 years old in 2005 and now, the 19-year-old Alcaraz has done it. Alcaraz lost against Lorenzo Musetti in the Hamburg European Open final, missing out on the chance to go up to World No. 4.

Alcaraz is currently only the third player this century to have entered the top five while still a teenager, joining Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic after accomplishing this enormous feat. Delighted at his achievement, he said, “It means a lot. The hard work that I put in every day for reaching my dreams, [No.] 1, and little by little I’m reaching my dream. Top five for me is pretty amazing and I will keep going to be [No.] 1.”

Will keep pushing for number 1 says, Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz, who began the year at No. 32, has moved up to No. 5. He has won 39 of his 45 games. Victories in Rio de Janeiro, Miami, Barcelona, and Madrid are included in this. This week, Carlos Alcaraz will compete at Umag in an attempt to capture five titles this year on the ATP Tour. After winning his first singles title in Umag last year, the top seed will attempt to retain a title for the first time in his career.

Meanwhile, the winner of Wimbledon in 2022, Novak Djokovic, fell to seventh place as the grass-court Grand Slam competition lost ranking points for barring Russian and Belarusian players. Djokovic will also miss the final Grand Slam of the year owing to the vaccination stand. However, Daniil Medvedev retained the top spot.
