The 18th edition of the World Athletics Championship will commence on July 15 in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Over 2000 elite athletes from around the world will compete throughout the 10-day sports competition. 21 athletes will be representing India including Olympics champion Neeraj Chopra.
Only Anju Bobby George has won a world championship for India. In the long jump event at the 2003 Championships in Paris, she took home a bronze medal.
World champion and gold medalist in the men’s 400-meter hurdles in the Tokyo Olympics, Karsten Warholm, is back in top shape. He sustained a hamstring injury while competing in the Diamond League match in Rabat, Morocco, and hasn’t competed since. Despite fitness fears, Italy’s Marcell Jacobs, who shocked the track and field world by taking home the gold in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics is all set to compete in the event.
