BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced a sum of 1.25 crore reward for pitch curators and groundsmen involved in the smooth conducting of IPL 2022. The cricketing board called the ground staff and curators, ‘unsung’ heroes of the tournament. However, BCCI is rewarding groundsmen for the first time.
Jay Shah made the announcement via Twitter. He posted, “I’m pleased to announce a prize money of INR 1.25 crores for the men who gave us the best games in #TATAIPL 2022. The unsung heroes – our curators and groundsmen across 6 IPL venues this season. We’ve witnessed some high octane games and I would like (to) thank each one of them for their hard work. 25 lacs each for CCI, Wankhede, DY Patil and MCA, Pune. 12.5 lacs each for Eden and Narendra Modi stadium.”
BCCI prize money
After the last two IPL seasons were disturbed by COVID -19, the BCCI chose to hold the 15th edition of the tournament in India. It was at 4 locations in Maharashtra, with two additional venues added subsequently for the playoffs. The Wankhede and Brabourne Stadiums in Mumbai, the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, and the MCA Stadium in Pune all hosted 70 IPL 2022 league games. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata hosted playoff 1 and eliminator. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosted playoff 2 and the final.
The 10-team IPL started on 26th March spanning over 2 months to conclude on 29th May with Gujarat Titans winning their first IPL trophy. An auction for the IPL broadcasting rights for 2023-2027 will be starting on June 12. Amazon, Reliance, Sony, Zee, Google, etc are some of the names on the list hoping to buy the rights.
