Bayern Munich finalized the transfer of Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, the club announced on social media. According to rumors, Bayern broke the bank for Kane’s transfer, with both clubs agreeing to a 100 million euro ($110 million, £86 million) fee for the 30-year-old striker.
Harry Kane also posted a video on his Twitter account thanking Tottenham fans for their love and support over the last two decades. Kane stated that he had a great time with the club and will carry many memories with him. Kane said he is looking forward to continuing to score goals and win trophies in the German league as he enters the next chapter of his life.
“You will always be in my heart. Thank you, Tottenham, thank you Tottenham fans,” Kane said in his video.
Upon joining Bayern Munich, Kane said, “I’m very happy to be part of Bayern, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I’ve always said that I want to move and prove myself at the highest level in my career.”
Harry Kane leaves as Tottenham’s all-time leading goal-scorer
Kane was due to fly to Germany for the medical after Spurs and Bayern agreed to terms on Thursday. Despite the delay, the English captain and his entourage made it to Munich, where he finalized his transfer from Tottenham to Bayern.
Harry Kane leaves as Tottenham’s all-time leading goal-scorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances, as well as England’s top scorer with 58 goals. Kane, who made his debut in December 2011, failed to win any local or international trophies with the London-based club.
As a result, he becomes the Premier League player with the most goals (213) without winning a trophy.
This move is a victory for Bayern Munich, as it ends their hunt for an outright striker in Kane. Following Bayern Lewandowski’s transfer to FC Barcelona the previous season, Bayern didn’t have a proper number 9.
Now that Kane has agreed to personal terms, he will fill that hole and go on a new journey in Germany in search of the local league title and the coveted Champions League.
