According to a report from ARA, Barcelona has approached Manchester United with a swap deal that would see Ousmane Dembele move to Old Trafford in January with Anthony Martial arriving at Camp Nou on loan.

Dembele has been with Barcelona since 2017 but will be out of contract at the end of the season. The 24-year-old Frenchman has rejected the club’s latest offer of an extension. He is yet to agree on a new deal. However, Barcelona signed Ferran Torres from Manchester City but cannot register him due to La Liga’s salary cap rules.

Barcelona ‘in talks’ with Manchester United

According to the report, United has been credited with an interest in Dembele for some time now. The Red Devils are believed to have held talks with representatives over a possible free transfer in the summer. “We [him and Martial] spoke yesterday at length and he explained to me that he has been with Manchester United now for the last seven years and he feels that it might be the right time now for a change. I told him [Martial] listen, as long as there is no club showing interest in him, and it should not only be in the interest of the player it should also be in the interest of the club,” Rangnick said.

However, the deal proposed by the Catalans would see Anthony Martial move the other way to Camp Nou. The Frenchman has struggled for game-time at Old Trafford and has made it clear that he wants an exit before the end of this month. Martial remains one of a number of Manchester United squad members in contention to leave the club this January. But the Red Devils have had some trouble finding an appropriate suitor for the French forward. Martial has scored 79 goals in 268 appearances since arriving at Man United in 2015. But with his current status, he is unlikely to come cheap for Barca with the Red Devils demanding a high value for the French international.
