The first-ever CWG cricket finals turned out to be a dramatic event. So far yet so close is how the match turned out to be for Team India. Despite putting up a great fight, Team India had to settle for a silver medal as they lost to Australia by 9 runs. The Australia Women batted first and scored 161/8 in 20 overs. Beth Mooney was the top scorer for Australia with a 41-ball 61. Despite Harmanpreet Kaur’s 65, India Women nevertheless came up short by 9.
India only allowed 36 runs in the final five overs while taking five wickets, preventing Australia from escaping aside from the 74-run partnership between Beth and captain Meg Lanning. India did a fantastic job fielding the ball, coming up with quick stops, wonderful catches, and excellent run-outs. Renuka Thakur, Sneh Rana, and Deepti Sharma all recorded two wickets each to their names while Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma each got one. Team India started off on a good note and was 118/2. However, they couldn’t keep up with the momentum and lost quick wickets and by the end of the game, they were 152 all out.

As if the first final wasn’t a record in itself, here are some of the records achieved during the game:
- In her 61-run effort, Gardner Mooney smacked eight fours. She has 1,893 runs at 37.86. She now has thirteen T20I half centuries.
- Gardner got a noticeable 25. She completed 900 career T20I runs at 24.75. She is the 8th Australian batter to score more than 900 runs.
- Megan Schutt (2/27) has amassed 108 T20I wickets at a blistering 15.60. She is now at par with Katherine Brunt’s record number (108).
- Harmanpreet Kaur scored a brave 65 runs knock. In T20Is, Harmanpreet has scored more than 2,500 runs. She has 2,548 runs at an average of 27.49. She is the first Indian and the seventh WT20I batter with 2,500 or more runs.
