The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday confirmed the 14 host countries of the ICC men’s white-ball events from 2024-2031. The Champions Trophy is back and Pakistan will host the tournament in 2025. This will also be the first major global cricket tournament played in Pakistan since 1996.
PCB chairman, Rameez Raja tweeted, “It’s a matter of great pride and delight that Pakistan will be hosting ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This great news will surely excite millions of Pakistani fans, expats, and world fans to see great teams and players in action and will allow the world to sample our hospitality.”
India get 3 ICC events in the next cycle
USA and West Indies will host the first major tournament of the 2024-2031 cycle in the form of the T20 World Cup in 2024. Pakistan will then host the Champions Trophy in 2025. India will then host the T20 World Cup in 2026 along with Sri Lanka while the ODI World Cup in 2027 will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia combined. Australia and New Zealand will host the T20 World Cup in 2028 while the Champions Trophy in 2029 will be hosted by India. England, Ireland, and Scotland have been awarded the hosting rights of the T20 World Cup in 2031 while India and Bangladesh will co-host the ODI World Cup in 2031.
ICC Chairman Greg Barclay said: “We are delighted to have concluded this competitive bidding process for the first time for ICC events. To have 14 Members hosting 8 events is a reflection of the truly global nature of our sport. And I’d like to thank every Member that submitted a bid and offer our congratulations to the successful bidders.
“It is fantastic to be returning to so many previous hosts. But what is really exciting about this process is the countries that will stage ICC events for the first time. Including the USA which is a strategic growth market for us. This gives us the opportunity to deepen our connection with fans in traditional cricket nations. And also reach new fans around the world.”
