Records are meant to be broken. Fair enough, especially in the case of the T20 format. Anything can happen and fans of IPL know this pretty well. Even though this league is known to create some records and break some, there are certain records that are likely to remain intact. With the new season coming up, here are 5 unbreakable records of IPL.
5 unbreakable records in IPL
1. Virat Kohli: 973 runs in a season
The T20 format is a batters game but imagine making nearly 1000 runs in one season. Sounds unreal right? Well, it seems like King Kohli is here to do wonders. During the 2016 IPL, Virat Kohli had a remarkable season. He was clearly at the peak of his career in that year, scoring 973 runs, but RCB failed to win their first IPL title. While there are many players currently who are known for power hitting and are even capable of scoring big runs, however this record for most runs in a season is unlikely to be broken.
2. Most IPL finals
Team India’s former skipper MS Dhoni has given his fans enough to boost about. CSK initially made to the IPL finals in 2008, and then they won in 2010 and 2011. In 2012, 2013, and 2015, they reached the Finals but lost to KKR, MI, and MI, respectively. They made to the Finals and won the championship in the IPL 2018 season, which was their comeback season. They were defeated in the IPL 2019 Final by a single run. CSK had a disappointing season in 2020 but rebounded in 2021 to win the trophy.
3. Hat Trick of hat tricks
Veteran leggie Amit Mishra has the record for most hat-tricks in the IPL. Mishra claimed hat-tricks during the 2008, 2011, and 2013 seasons. This is an unbreakable record because hat tricks are extremely difficult to acquire in the game. In the history of the IPL, 15 bowlers have claimed a hat-trick, but none of them have done what Mishra has done thus far.
4. Best IPL bowling figures
The format of the IPL is well renowned for not favoring bowlers. Great players, on the other hand, have always found a way to dazzle cricket fans. One of these incredible performances occurred when Alzarri Joseph shattered a previously unbreakable record. Joseph ripped through the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting line-up in his first encounter for the Mumbai Indians, finishing with statistics of 6/12 from only 3.4 overs, shattering Sohail Tanvir’s previous best of 6/14 set in 2008.
10-game winning streak
The Kolkata Knight Riders are unquestionably one of the most successful teams in the IPL’s history. They won the championship in 2012 and 2014, and have finished in the top four in a few seasons. What’s more astonishing is their 10-game winning streak, which dates back to the IPL 2014 and 2015 before coming to an end with a loss to the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
