3 players unlikely to return with the Boston Celtics for the 2021-22 NBA Season

Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics

The 2020-21 season has officially come to an end for the Boston Celtics. They were beaten in their best-of-seven first-round series against Brooklyn Nets. The Boston Celtics were average at best during the 2020/21 NBA Regular season, recording a 36-36 run. They have struggled in the whole season for not having consistent performances. Also, the injuries played a huge role in their campaign. So, here are three players who look unlikely to begin the 2021/22 NBA season with the Boston Celtics.

Semi Ojeleye

Semi Ojeleye was selected by the Boston Celtics in the 2017 NBA draft. He finished the 2020/21 season with the second-worst defensive box plus-minus rating for the Boston Celtics (-1.2). While he did manage to improve his long-range shooting this season, converting on 37 percent of his attempts from this distance on nearly 2.8 shots per game.

Coming to the trading part, It’s not like Semi Ojeleye doesn’t deserve a shot at competing for a roster spot in the NBA next season. When it comes to Boston’s payroll, it would be better than the money it would take to bring him back can be used elsewhere.

Kemba Walker

Kemba Walker featured in only 43 regular-season matches. He missed 29 games in the regular season plus two playoff games mostly due to a left knee injury. If the knee injury gets worse, the Celtics are stuck paying Walker roughly $37 million in each of the next two seasons while he sits on the bench.

Also, Previously Kemba’s cousin has come out with trade rumors surrounding the guard and there have been speculations for imminent departure. The Boston Celtics have failed to trade him in the past but might see it through this time around. His departure would also provide some breathing space for the Boston Celtics payroll.

Tristan Thompson

Thompson signed with Boston in 2020. One of the most impactful for the Boston Celtics this year. He averaged 7.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and just over half a block on 52 percent shooting from the field this season.

They will be looking to make some moves this offseason. Due to their financial situation, it looks like a trade route will be the best for them. Thompson also holds value as a 10-year championship veteran, a salary matcher, and a top performer.  Celtics have a good chance to bring on some meaningful additions to the roster.
