Roger Binny, the 1983 World Cup champion of India, is expected to succeed Sourav Ganguly as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Since the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) chose Binny as its delegate for the BCCI AGM rather than the board’s secretary Santosh Menon. Binny has apparently been the front-runner for the top position.
Jay Shah is expected to continue serving as the BCCI’s secretary and could take Ganguly’s place as the organization’s representative on the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah will serve as the BCCI secretary for a second consecutive term, and treasurer Arun Dhumal is most likely to succeed him as the new chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Roger Binny will become the new BCCI president during the board’s annual general meeting
According to a report by the news agency PTI, Roger Binny will become the new BCCI president during the board’s annual general meeting on October 18. Shah will continue serving as the board’s secretary, and Rajeev Shukla will continue serving as the vice president of the Indian Cricket Board, according to sources.
“Roger is one of the finest human beings and a thorough gentleman, who has graced the field for India. Plus he is also a World Cup hero and has a squeaky-clean image. He had resigned from the selection committee as his son Stuart back then was in contention to be in the Indian team. He is the right choice for the job,” a source was quoted as saying by PTI.
Meanwhile, Dhumal will be replaced as the BCCI’s new treasurer by Maharashtra-based BJP politician Ashish Shelar. Shelar ran for the position of Mumbai Cricket Association president as well (MCA). He won’t, however, be able to be chosen to be the new MCA president due to his appointment to the BCCI.
Jayesh George will be replaced by Devajit Saikia as the BCCI’s next joint secretary
Jayesh George will be replaced by Devajit Saikia as the BCCI’s next joint secretary. According to PTI, all candidates are expected to submit their nomination papers on Tuesday. There won’t be any elections for any of the positions, and they will all likely be chosen without opposition.
According to the report, former India captain Ganguly wanted to continue serving as BCCI president, but there was no precedent for doing so. When Ganguly was given the position of IPL chairman, he graciously declined, which allowed Dhumal to take over as the T20 league’s new chairman.
“Sourav was offered IPL chairmanship but he politely declined the offer. His logic was that he cannot accept becoming head of a sub-committee in BCCI after heading the same institution. He had expressed interest in continuing in the position,” a source was quoted as saying by PTI.
