According to a review report provided by Sportradar Integrity Services, 13 competitive cricket matches in 2022 were under investigation. The Sportradar Integrity Services unit is an international group of qualified integrity experts who provide analyses on illegal betting, match-fixing, and other types of sports corruption. According to the 28-page research titled ‘Betting, Corruption, and Match-Fixing,’ an unprecedented “1212 questionable matches” were found in 12 sporting disciplines in 92 nations in the calendar year 2022.
To detect suspicious behavior during matches, the organization employs the program Universal Fraud Detection System (UFDS). While football accounted for 775 potentially corrupted matches, basketball is second on the list with 220 such games, and lawn tennis is third with 75 suspicious games. Surprisingly, cricket ranks sixth out of 12 sports in terms of allegedly fraudulent games. According to the research, 13 corrupt games might still be the most for the sport in a single year.
“Although a number of sports continue to display relatively low numbers of suspicious matches, 13 suspicious cricket matches is still the highest annual figure recorded by Sportradar Integrity Services, and handball and futsal also recorded their highest-ever number of suspicious matches,” the report stated.
The PTI sent a questionnaire to Sportradar to determine which format has been tainted the most, whether it is international games or T20 league matches. But, according to the graphics presented in the report, the company is not referring to any matches played in India.
As a result, it is possible to conclude that none of the 13 corrupt matches described in the study were played in India. In reality, Sportradar collaborated with the BCCI’s anti-corruption section in 2020 to uncover betting violations during IPL matches.
