Japanese billionaire Maezawa on Friday announced the crew of eight for the SpaceX moon trip. Crew members include K-pop star TOP and DJ Steve Aoki. Here’s all about it.

All about the moon trip

On Friday, Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa announced the crew of eight for “dearMoon“, accompanying him on a trip around the moon in a SpaceX rocket. Maezawa purchased all seats on the maiden lunar voyage and first announced it in 2018. He first planned to invite a highly selective six to eight artists as crew. However, later he also made entry possible through a contest.

The businessman and the crew are going to be the first passengers on the SpaceX flyby to travel to the moon. Hence kickstarting a new era of space voyages making space travel possible for the rich. The moon trip will be for eight days and include circling the moon and flying 200 km away from the lunar surface.

Who is a part of the crew?

K-pop star Choi Seung Hyun, also known as TOP, and DJ Steve Aoki are among the select few to join the crew. “I feel great pride and responsibility in becoming the first Korean civilian going to the moon,” stated TOP in his new video. Other crews include American filmmaker Brendan Hall, American YouTuber Tim Dodd, British photographer Karim Iliya, Czech artist Yemi AD, Indian actor Dev Joshi and Irish photographer Rhiannon Adam.

Additionally, as per the announcement, Miyu and Kaitlyn Farrington are going to be a part of the backup crew. Miyu is a Japanese dancer and Farrington, is a US Olympic snowboarder. In his recent tweet, the business tycoon stated that he received over a million applications. All of them requesting for a chance to go on the moon trip. Additionally, he also shared information about a meeting with Elon Musk for a “big announcement about space”.
