According to astronomers, the 1995 UFO sightings were celestial bodies. Here’s more on the mysterious strobe of lights that sparked the rumors.
What happened in 1995?
In 1995, two American pilots flying American West flight 564 from Dallas to Las Vegas claimed to have a close encounter with a UFO. However, the recent reports are suggesting that it might not have been the case. Captain Eugene Tollefson and co-pilot John Waller were cruising through with passengers in the flight when a flight attendant noticed something odd in the sky. While there were no interactions with the ‘UFO’, the crew reported seeing strange lights among the clouds. Waller immediately contacted the nearest Air Traffic Control in Albuquerque, New Mexico to report the object.
According to a transcript of the exchange- Waller said, “off to our three o’clock, got some strobes out there. Could you tell us what it is?” When asked to describe what he saw, Waller was recorded saying “There’s a strobe and starts. Um, going on counter-clockwise, and uh… the length is unbelievable”. After failing to detect the object, the Air Traffic Comtrol replied “Cactus 564… we checked with Cannon and they don’t have any, uh, weather balloons or anything up tonight. Nobody upfront knows any idea about that. Do you still see it?” They said, “Negative… back where we initially spotted it was between the weather and us and when there’s lightning you could see a dark object… and, uh, it was pretty eerie looking.”
Clearing the air about old UFO sightings
The odd incident perplexed the astronomers as they attempted to analyze it. “The kinds of things that can fool even, I think, trained pilots are, for example, bright planets,” stated Seth Shostak. Shostak is the lead astronomer at SETI Institute. He further added that ‘celestial bodies’ may have played a major role in the bizarre situation experienced by America West flight 564.
