The digital pet insurance agency has provided health care coverage for a substantial segment of Israel’s community of pet owners in the past 5 years. Now the beneficial practices are transplanted into a new frontier.
A sick pet is an emotional and financial burden for unprepared owners.
The insurance business provided Yoni Kiehl with a different perspective than the one most other pet parents have about health care challenges. The entrepreneur shares a home with Porta, a beautiful French bulldog, and is versed in unplanned pet emergencies. Convinced that he could provide options for pet health issues, Yoni embarked on a journey by harnessing his experience in the insurance business.
In 2016, he took the first step by founding a digital pet insurance agency in Israel, striving to tackle unexpected situations that pet owners face and instruct them on prevention methods that boost pet’s quality of life.
Within a year, Animalia pet insurance overtook the competition and entrenched itself as a force to be reckoned with in the local market, thanks to innovative insurance concepts that appealed to the pet community.
The dynamic rise in the Israeli market did not go unnoticed, and many were curious about the strategy implemented. Kiehl provided an honest answer: “Our business model depends on cooperation with the local vet community, and they were the initial barrier for developing the market. Most vets had misgivings about our product, assuming the final result would undermine the standards of veterinary care. To prove our point, we agreed to an officially signed agreement, confirming that our practices will follow guidelines from veterinary professionals. We abide by the core rule, care-based and not cost-based”.
With every successive year, the pet insurance industry is breaking its records of consecutive growth, and there is still space for new benchmarks. These projections are supported by the fact that in 2020 about 3.45 million pets had insurance in the U.S., as reported by the North American Pet Health Insurance Industry Association (NAPHIA). Considering the rising pet population in the U.S.
The market opportunity for Animalia pet health insurance looks promising.
