Side-eyeing Chloe Clem: Iconic meme to be sold as NFT

You probably remember a young girl or side-eyeing Chloe, who became an internet sensation. The iconic meme will now be sold as an NFT.

What is the side-eyeing Chloe meme NFT?

What is the side-eyeing Chloe meme NFT?

Chloe Clem, a ten-year-old girl became internet famous in 2013 when her mother shared an image of her unimpressed reaction to a surprise trip to Disney land. The image is now one of the most popular memes that express concern. Chloe’s mother Katie uploaded a video on Youtube of her daughters reacting to a surprise trip to Disneyland. The video features Chloe and her sister Lily. Lily started crying “but then the camera panned over and Chloe made her cute little buck-toothed side-eye face and the internet did the rest,” said Katie.

The video has over 20 million views and Chloe’s face became a favorite on the internet. Within a few weeks, Chloe became ‘the patron saint of Tumblr’ and ‘the queen and goodness of the internet’. “I opened up Tumblr and there were just pages and pages of Chloe’s face. It was very weird, very overwhelming. I had my family, friends sending me these memes – till this day they still send me the memes of Chloe they see on the internet,” said Katie. Chloe has also accumulated more than 500,000 Instagram followers. Additionally, she was a part of a Google advertisement in Brazil.

Owning this NFT will give the owner a digital certificate stating ownership of the piece. However, winning an NFT is not the same as owning the copyright. Hence the auction winner will be owning a digital token that represents the meme. However, the winner will not own the meme. Chloe’s family decided to auction the side-eyeing Chloe image as an NFT. The bid starts at 5 Ethereum, roughly worth $15,000.

“It’s a cool opportunity, especially if there’s a Chloe fan out there who loves this meme they’ll be able to own it. Even Chloe has said ‘that’s pretty cool’ – it’s a typical 10-year-old thing to say,” said Katie Clem. She also added that selling the image was a no-brainer. Chloe’s mother said that she would like to use the money from the sale towards her daughter’s college education. (https://linksmagazine.com)
