Satoshi Nakamoto: Victory for Craig Wright, who says bitcoin is his creation

Here’s the aftermath of a pandemic-style virtual ruling on Monday. A court in the UK ordered Bitcoin to stop sharing the iconic ‘bitcoin white paper’. The court favored Craig Wright aka ‘Satoshi Nakamoto’. Nakamoto is a computer scientist who claimed to have written the sole document that describes the essence of bitcoin. Cobra, the anonymous Bitcoin founder, must now pay over $48,000 in legal costs.

What does ruling in favor of Satoshi Nakamoto mean?

Nakamoto or Craig Wright, a computer scientist who claims that he wrote the original document which outlines what bitcoin is. He won the case of copyright infringement by default. Expected as ‘Cobra’ the anonymous Bitcoin founder kept mum while defending the proceedings in court. This means that Bitcoin.org must take down the document from the website. It must also display the court order notice on the website for six months. In addition to it, the cryptocurrency firm must pay Wright almost $48,600 to cover legal costs.

“This is an important development in Dr. Wright’s quest to obtain judicial vindication of his copyright in his white paper. What will happen depends on what Wright wants to do. And, if he’s content with the court’s decision” said Simon Cohen, a senior associate at Ontier.

Craig Wright’s backstory

Until recently, Satoshi Nakamoto has been a figure of mystery. Nakomoto was always attributed to the creation of the cryptocurrency but, otherwise, nothing much was known. The volatile cryptocurrency gained the populace with time.

Wright obtained permission to take Cobra, Bitcoin’s operator to court in April 2021 despite not knowing their name or address. However, Craig claimed to be the original author of the white paper. The author took Cora to court to ensure that supporters of the assets don’t misinterpret it from its identity. Just like Bitcoin Core is not to be confused with Bitcoin. “I didn’t turn up because I didn’t want to expose my identity. I am still waiting to be served the judgment. So, I will wait and see for now,” Cobra told Insider in a tweet.
