Do you, however, know the height of the tallest human to have ever lived? Tall people are noticed everywhere they go. Tall people are also very aware of all the cliché jokes that are made about them.
A photo of Robert Wadlow, dubbed “The Giant of Illinois” and recognized by Guinness World Records as the tallest man ever documented, was posted on the Twitter page “History in Color.”
Wadlow measured an astounding 2.72 m (8 ft 11.1 in) when he was last measured on June 27, 1940, the article continues. Wadlow, who weighed an unimpressive 3.85 kg and was born on February 22, 1918, to two average-sized parents. But by the time he was 5, he had grown to be 5 feet 4 inches tall and was already dressing like a teenager.
“Amazing picture of the tallest man who ever lived,” the Guinness World Records retweeted a post from the page ‘History in Color’.
“Wow amazing and he looked so kind,” commented a Twitter user. “Wadlow is not in the category of ‘I only date guys whose height starts with a 6’,” joked another.
Robert Wadlow set out on a tour with the immensely well-liked Ringling Brothers Circus, which brought the monster international fame.
Wadlow tragically died at the age of 22 from a bacterial blister on his right ankle brought on by a brace that had been improperly applied just a week before. He passed away in a Manistee, Michigan motel on July 15, 1940.
In 1986, Alton’s most well-known inhabitant, Wadlow, was honored with a life-sized monument on College Avenue, in front of the Alton Museum of History and Art.
