This new decade has brought a lot of meaning to terms like Social distancing, zoom university, lockdowns, and many more. Staycations were a lexicon in 2020. However, vaxication is the new hype in 2021-with immunization drives happening at a large scale.

What is a vaxication?

The first leisure trip after complete vaccination is called ‘vaxication’. Many fully vaccinated people in the US are planning a vaxication with their loved ones. The trend is giving a much-needed boost to the travel industry.

When are you considered fully vaccinated?

There are two types of vaccines in the US-single dose (Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine) and two-dose vaccines(such as Moderna or Pfizer vaccines).

You are considered fully vaccinated only two weeks after your final vaccination jab.

Why take a vaxication?

Summers are approaching and, a holiday away from everything happening around you is long overdue. The last summer passed by as we went through lockdowns and staycations. But, since vaccination rollouts are happening at war footing, you can finally think of taking a vacation.

Use this chance to visit a tropical paradise with your family, go camping or, go on your spring break with your friends. You could even catch up with your college friends by the beach.

When and where can you take a vaxication?

As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s latest recommendation:

Words of caution

However, the CDC does not recommend attending large gatherings. it’s unknown if vaccinated people can stop spreading the virus even if they don’t display symptoms. CDC also recommends maintaining social distance, masking up, and following other guidelines.

A vaxication is probably a good way to destress after the long year and a half we’ve had. Take this time to reconnect with your friends, nature, and yourself. Make sure you follow all the guidelines and COVID-related protocols.
