A two-year-old toddler from Scotland has become the youngest person to reach Mount Everest’s base camp. According to Metro, Carter Dallas went to the south edge of Nepal, 17,598 feet above sea level, on his father Ross’ back. Jade, the mother of the toddler, walked alongside the couple. The family is on a year-long tour through Asia, and their boy is thought to have beaten the global record formerly held by four-year-old Zara from the Czech Republic.
“Carter coped better than me and his mum. We both got slight altitude sickness but he was fine,” the boy’s father was quoted as saying by Metro.
“There were two medics at the villages before base camp and they tested his blood to check he was fine, his results were way better than ours – they were amazed,” the 35-year-old further said while talking about the climb in October last year.
Parents gear up and embark on the Everest trek with toddler immediately
The parents of the toddler had brought food jackets and sleeping bags for their journey. “Within 24 hours of touching down in Kathmandu we started the trek,” Ross said.
Ross and his wife purchased three one-way tickets for a year of travel in 2023 after renting off their home in Scotland. According to the Metro article, they flew to India before visiting Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The family then traveled to Nepal and Malaysia before flying to Singapore to celebrate Carter’s birthday at Universal Studios. They also visited Thailand.
The child enjoys eating food from other nations, including chicken feet in Malaysia, but his favorite dish is Pad Thai.
The family is hoping Carter’s world record will be confirmed. Zara currently holds the record, having traveled 170 miles (274 kilometers) to the base camp. Before her, Prisha Lokesh Nikajoo held the global record for the youngest person to reach Mount Everest base camp, at the age of five in 2023.
