Reddit Co-Founder Shares Health Update
Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and husband of tennis legend Serena Williams, has revealed he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease. The 41-year-old tech mogul announced the news via a series of posts on his X/Twitter account.
Diagnosis and health status
“Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc. and found out I have Lyme disease,” Ohanian wrote. “Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat.” Despite the diagnosis, Ohanian remains optimistic. He shared that his cholesterol levels need attention but highlighted positive testosterone results.
What is Lyme disease?
Since then, Lyme disease has been recognized as a significant health concern, especially in regions where deer ticks are prevalent. Understanding its causes and history is crucial for developing effective prevention and treatment strategies.
A personal connection to Lyme disease
Ohanian also reflected on an experience with Lyme disease through a loved one, emphasizing the surprise of his diagnosis due to his limited exposure to areas where ticks are common. “I spend so little time in the wilderness/northeast that that this was quite a surprise,” he noted, before adding with determination, “Anyway, gonna grab some antibiotics—can’t keep me down, tick!”
Ohanian and Williams met serendipitously in 2015 during breakfast at a hotel in Rome. The couple married in 2017 and have two children. They recently attended the ESPY Awards together, where Williams hosted the ceremony.
A memorable ESPY awards night
At the ESPYs, Williams delivered a lively opening monologue, making humorous jabs at friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, NFL star Harrison Butker, and addressing the Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap beef. “Prince Harry and Meghan are here, let’s give it up for them,” she began. “But please, Harry and Meghan, try not to breathe too much tonight. Because this is my night and I don’t want to be overshadowed by accusations you guys are taking up too much oxygen.” The royal couple took the joke in stride, smiling and clapping along with the audience.
Ohanian’s diagnosis sheds light on the often-surprising nature of Lyme disease, underscoring the importance of regular health check-ups and awareness of tick-borne illnesses.
