In terms of video game releases, the year 2023 has been ridiculously good. However, 2024 is shaping up to be just as exciting. There’s a lot to look forward to next year, as announced during the Summer Game Fest and Xbox showcases in June. These are our picks for the ten most anticipated games of 2024.
List of 10 most anticipated games of 2024
10. Persona 3: Reload
Persona 3 Reload is a remake of the third installment with improved visuals, performance, and gameplay. This game is exciting because the Persona series experienced a surge in popularity following the release of Persona 4 and Persona 5, implying that many players may have missed the third installment. While it is disappointing that you will not be able to play as a female protagonist in Persona 3 Reload (as you could in Persona 3 Portable), this remake is still one to look forward to.
9. Like a dragon: Infinite Wealth
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will pick up where Yakuza: Like a Dragon left off, sending protagonist Ichiban Kasuga on another adventure to Hawaii. Although we don’t know much about this entry, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has confirmed that it will retain the turn-based RPG mechanics of its predecessor, as well as the return of Kazuma Kiryu. It will be available in early 2024.
8. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
The Lost Crown of Persia is a 2.5D sidescrolling action platformer with Metroidvania elements. The emphasis will be on action, with massive boss battles and fast-paced platforming. This will be available on January 18, 2024.
7. Palworld
Though Palworld is frequently referred to as “Pokémon with guns,” it does a lot to distinguish itself from Nintendo’s popular franchise. Palworld leans more toward realism, at least in terms of lighting and the world. Its third-person shooting gameplay is borderline ridiculous, thanks to its bizarre-looking monsters who use massive chainguns to eliminate enemies. It will be available in early access in January 2024.
6. The Wolf Among Us 2
The wait for The Wolf Among Us 2 has undoubtedly been agonizing, but it will finally be released in 2024. The Wolf Among Us 2 will take place after the events of the first game and will feature enhanced visuals and a captivating atmosphere in addition to Telltale’s beloved episodic design. Telltale’s best game is arguably The Wolf Among Us, so it will be interesting to see what the studio does with the story and characters all these years later.
5. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was already an impressive design achievement, putting the entire world at players’ fingertips. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 aims to increase immersion by adding more activities. More objective-based missions, such as aerial firefighting, search and rescue, and helicopter transport, are included in the new installment, all powered by Asobo Studio’s “evolved” engine.
4. Avowed
Obsidian Entertainment’s new RPG Avowed, is set to release in 2024 and is shaping up to be a fantastic experience. The upcoming game will emphasize action while retaining Obsidian’s RPG systems. Expect fast-paced fantasy combat in which players can cast spells and even use guns to defeat opponents and complete quests. Obsidian has confirmed that Avowed takes place in the Pillars of Eternity universe.
3. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
During its Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft provided an in-depth look at Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, which appears to be more ambitious than expected. It’s easily one of Microsoft’s best-looking games, but visuals aren’t the only thing to look forward to in Ninja Theory’s next project. It will also feature immersive audio that appears to improve on its predecessor (so play with headphones). It will be released in 2024.
2. Final Fantasy VII
The next installment in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is almost here. Square Enix has finally shown the second installment, titled Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, in action, and it looks incredible. Cloud and his friends have escaped Midgar and must battle the evil Sephiroth in Rebirth, which takes place after the events of 2020’s Remake. This entry will take players to the world of Gaia, which appears to be much more open than the previous installment’s Midgar. It will be available in early 2024.
1. Star Wars Outlaws
Star Wars Outlaws is the “first-ever open-world Star Wars game,” according to Ubisoft Massive Entertainment, the studio best known for its work on The Division franchise. Players will take on the role of Kay Vess, an outlaw with one goal in mind: “Attempt one of the biggest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen.”
This game is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and it will feature third-person action gameplay with stealth elements and an emphasis on exploration and shooting. Outlaws, like many recent Star Wars games, appear to be expensive and official, with stunning visuals and presentation.
