For years now, GTA fans have been anticipating the upcoming installment in the renowned open-world franchise. With GTA V now more than 10 years old, players have been theorizing about what GTA VI might look like.
Early on Sunday morning, a sizable collection of Grand Theft Auto VI assets, including pre-alpha video and several images, were made available on public forums. One hacker going by the handle “teapotuberhacker” allegedly stole the assets from Rockstar’s servers. He also claims to have “GTA V and VI source code and assets” and a “GTA VI test build.”. He published over 90 videos featuring gameplay from GTA VI. The videos, in contrast to the official teaser trailers, contain a number of unfinished components, including character models and missing textures.
Some of these videos have a female protagonist who robs a restaurant, goes to a strip club and strikes up a discussion by the pool. The trailers also imply that GTA Vice City will be the setting for the game. The individual who uploaded the films also took credit for the most recent Uber breach, and claimed to have obtained the videos by hacking into a Rockstar employee’s Slack account.
The game operates on RTX 3060Ti and RTX 3080, according to a report from The Edge, showing that the build is not more than two years old despite some claims to the contrary. Additionally, a Bloomberg reporter confirmed the authenticity of the film with Rockstar sources.
It’s a significant leak from a developer who is known for keeping things under wraps, giving us a first look at one of the most eagerly awaited games of this decade. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has high expectations for GTA VI, which, in the words of CEO Strauss Zelnick, “will set creative milestones for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment,”
The leaks were first discovered on GTA Forums, where the hacker is said to have searched the source code for any requests made by other users. One of the requests, for instance, asked for any mention of a Take-Two-related court matter that was still pending; the request was purportedly made by one of the defendants in that case.
Rockstar may have stopped developing GTA V in favor of the upcoming GTA episode earlier this month when it rolled over the credits on its GTA V and GTA V Online page and altered the title to “Thank You.” As you would have predicted, Rockstar has begun requesting the removal of videos of GTA VI gameplay from websites like YouTube.
