Closure of 2 Nintendo consoles to affect 74% Pokémon games: Report

Pokemon lovers have suffered a severe blow as a result of Nintendo’s announcement that the 3DS and Wii U eShops will be shutting down. Only 25% of Pokemon games will still be on sale after March 27 according to Phil Salvador of the Video Game History Foundation, who tweeted a graph showing the percentage of Pokemon games that will still be sold by Nintendo.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Pokemon Sword, and Shield, and other titles from the remaining 26% of the Pokemon games may all be played on the Nintendo Switch. But Phil Salvador’s graph also showed that several other well-known games, including Detective Pikachu, Pokemon Red and Blue, Pokemon Yellow, Pokemon Gold, and Silver, Pokemon X and Y, Pokemon Sun and Moon, and many others, will no longer be available for purchase.

Long-time Pokemon fans will be greatly disappointed by this revelation because it means they won’t be able to continue playing some of their favorite games from the series. It may take some time before we can play the DS, 3DS, or Wii virtual consoles again, despite the fact that there is hope that Nintendo would add more Pokemon games to the Nintendo Switch via Nintendo Switch Online.
