The Cooper patriarch’s tragedy had already been written into the CBS sitcom before it even aired. He died when Sheldon was just 14 years old, according to The Big Bang Theory. Considering where Young Sheldon’s current actions fall in the chronology, viewers can’t help but be concerned that George’s death is nearer than expected. However, the spin-off has a plan in place to deal with the gloomy plotline; so that one of its most essential characters isn’t killed off anytime soon.
After a two-week hiatus, Young Sheldon has returned with a new episode. The wait looks to have been worthwhile, as the show is now on its 100th episode. It’s an exceptional achievement, especially for a network show. However, George’s death is something the Young Sheldon creators haven’t given much thought about. In any event, Molaro told Variety that the spin-off’s tenure can be extended by slowing things down.
Young Sheldon creators are yet to finalize the execution of the storyline
“That’s off in the distance,” Marlo said. “That particular milestone is always looming. And we’ve flirted with it through dialogue from adult Sheldon in voiceover on ‘Young Sheldon.’ The show’s picked up for two more years, but we’re not arcing that far ahead. But it’s something that we’re always cognizant of and aware of as the show inevitably goes on and the kids get older.”
Young Sheldon has been edging his way around this plot by slowing down his narration. It’s worked for years because they can stretch out the ages of the child actors to make The Big Bang Theory prequel go as long as possible. That, however, isn’t going to work in the long run. Given this, Young Sheldon would have to begin planning George’s cheating scandal and subsequent death as soon as possible. However, if the creators intend to skip this step, the only plausible explanation is that the show is set in another world with merely passing similarities to The Big Bang Theory.
