On February 22, Pop Tingz, the pop culture news X account, tweeted that Julie Ragbeer “reminisces about her 19-year-old experiences in her new debut album.”
However, curious internet users dug deeper and discovered that her album, titled “Perplex,” was actually released in July 2023. Ragbeer, a 24-year-old singer-songwriter, had only about 100 Twitter/X followers at the time of the tweet, and her music received relatively low streaming numbers.
This led to speculation that she may have paid for promotional services. Despite this, Ragbeer shot to fame overnight, with memes about her going viral.
Who is Julie Ragbeer?
Ragbeer’s musical career began at the age of 19 with the release of her debut single, “Rejected,” in 2019, which was followed by a few other songs and the Gospel EP “My Father.” Her debut album, “Perplex,” includes songs like “Fight Against Your Fleshy Lusts” and “Mary Whiton Calkins.”
In interviews, Ragbeer has mentioned Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift as her main musical influences, as well as Jane Addams. Notably, one of her songs, “Older Guys,” contains a Lana Del Rey reference.
“Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey are songwriting legends,” she stated in a recent interview. “I also adore Jane Addams.”
Ragbeer’s sudden surge in popularity has resulted in tangible success, with over 21,000 monthly Spotify listeners and over 8,000 X followers as of February 27.
On February 26, she tweeted, “Focusing on the light you give me, forgetting the hate, and always knowing there’s room to grow.”
