Tulisa discusses her sexual orientation on reality TV
London-based rapper and songwriter Tulisa, known for her work with the hip-hop group N-Dubz and her solo career, has opened up about her sexual orientation, describing herself as demisexual. The revelation came during her appearance on the popular reality show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!
“I need emotional depth,” says Tulisa
In a candid conversation on the show, Tulisa, whose full name is Tula Paulinea Contostavlos, explained her perspective on romantic and sexual relationships.
“I feel like I’m demisexual; I need to have a really close emotional bond with someone. I need actual depth,” she shared. Adding that her approach to relationships is a “slow burner,” she revealed, “I’ve been celibate for over three years.”
Dating makes her uncomfortable
Tulisa also disclosed her discomfort with traditional dating. “The thought of dating genuinely makes me feel physically sick,” she said, elaborating on her need for emotional connection over casual encounters. She emphasized, “For me, it’s all about the connection and the emotions that I feel with someone and then wanting to express them in that way.”
Despite her feelings about dating, Tulisa is listed on Raya, an exclusive dating app for celebrities, though she hinted at being selective in her interactions.
A look back at Tulisa’s career
Tulisa first gained fame in the 2000s as a member of N-Dubz, a British hip-hop group that produced hits like I Need You. She later ventured into a solo career, delivering tracks like Young and Sight of You. In addition to her music, Tulisa served as a judge on The X Factor UK from 2011 to 2012, further cementing her presence in the entertainment industry.
Understanding demisexuality
Demisexuality is a sexual orientation where a person experiences sexual attraction only after forming a close emotional bond with someone. It is considered part of the asexuality spectrum, as it deviates from conventional patterns of immediate physical attraction.
As discussions around diverse sexual orientations continue to gain visibility, Tulisa’s openness about being demisexual contributes to broader awareness and understanding of this lesser-known identity.
